Volunteer

At The Literacy Hubs our volunteers are a vital part of the work we do, enabling us to provide high quality, 1-1 and small group support to the young people on our programme.

We are currently accepting volunteer applications for our Portsmouth hubs, The Pompey Pirates and The Portsea Sailors.

Our aim is to develop a city of confident and ambitious young people with the literacy skills they need to succeed in life. By providing positive and encouraging 1-1 support to the young people with whom we work, volunteers have the opportunity to help the children thrive.

Our hubs offer unique, fantastical, and immersive learning environments, in which we aim to inspire a life-long love of reading and writing. Our volunteers play an essential role in building and maintaining this fun and inclusive atmosphere.

Who can volunteer?

As a not-for-profit, educational charity, we aim to be as inclusive as possible and welcome applications from people with a variety of backgrounds. You don’t need to have worked as a teacher, or in a school to join the team; an enthusiastic desire to create a positive and supportive environment is enough of a qualification! However, we are currently unable to accept applications from anyone under the age of 18.

Our volunteer roles would be a great fit for anyone who:

  • Has a good level of literacy, and feels confident supporting others in this area
  • Is able to build a good rapport with children and young people
  • Enjoys mentoring and supporting people
  • Is willing to provide positive support and encouragement

If this sounds like you, then we would love to hear from you!
