At The Literacy Hubs our volunteers are a vital part of the work we do, enabling us to provide high quality, 1-1 and small group support to the young people on our programme.

Who Can Volunteer?

As a not-for-profit, educational charity, we aim to be as inclusive as possible and welcome applications from people with a variety of backgrounds. You don’t need to have worked as a teacher, or in a school to join the team; an enthusiastic desire to create a positive and supportive environment is enough of a qualification! However, we are currently unable to accept applications from anyone under the age of 18.

Interested in Volunteering?

Our volunteer roles would be a great fit for anyone who:

  • Has a good level of literacy, and feels confident supporting others in this area
  • Is able to build a good rapport with children and young people
  • Enjoys mentoring and supporting people
  • Is willing to provide positive support and encouragement

What we offer our volunteers:

  • Planned sessions, led by a qualified teacher
  • A clear explanation of what you will be doing and why
  • A safe and enjoyable volunteering environment
  • Appropriate training, guidance and support for your role
  • Refreshments provided at each session
  • Regular communications from the charity with updates on progress and news
  • An invitation to attend our end of term project celebration events
  • A number of regular social events throughout the year
  • Recognition of outstanding service (eg. hours given) to the charity
